I was born in Washington DC and raised in Springfield, Virginia, the youngest of three. I am blessed to still have a close, loving relationship with both my sister and brother who have always been loving and supportive, even if I was the young, dumb, airhead of the family! I attended one year at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA., but not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, quit. I worked at a nursing home, gas station, as a driver and eyes for a blind farmer, then at a bank. My folks retired and moved to Missouri where my mom was raised, and soon after my sister followed them. My brother was in the Navy, so with no family left in Virginia, I also moved to Missouri. I lived with my sister in a couple different farm houses in Randolph County near Hubbard, and worked at Reed's Corner in Moberly. I met my first husband, Gene, there. We moved to Joplin and married, but moved back to Columbia after a couple of years. We had a rocky marriage, eventually divorcing, but had two wonderful kids.

I worked at banks in Columbia but started my own in-home daycare in 1990, hoping to make a living wage and be able to support ourselves, plus spend my days with my kids. I raised my kids as a single mom who did a lot of second-guessing herself, but my kids turned out great despite me! Those were wonderful, fun, at times scary, years, and my kids were, and still are, my best friends. A mom could not be more blessed. We developed a passion for the Civil War and spent family vacations visiting battlefields out east, our favorite being Gettysburg. My mother lived across the street from us, and was a huge help, providing a lot of love and support.

As those years came to a close, I met my next, and last, life companion, John. I moved to his farm outside Ashland, which was a big lifestyle change for me, and for him! I immersed myself in playing in the dirt and constantly expanding the yard until I found myself complaining that it takes six hours to mow! I seem to always come up with more projects for us to do (some for just John to do!) some of which will probably never get done, but it's fun dreaming! I nag, he ignores, but we have fun!

On September 10, 2013, we lost my step-son, Jacob, to suicide, the same day my dad took his own life in 1989. Many emotional stages of grief and years of memories later, I still miss them. They are never far from my thoughts, and always in my heart.

I have a deep love of family and local history, and spend most of my time locating, photographing, and researching burials in cemeteries. I am an avid NFL fan (Go CHIEFS!) and also enjoy college football and basketball. I love working outdoors, but my increasingly creaky body doesn't want to keep up like it used to! My very dear "cemetery buddy" is Doug Rutherford who has become a very cherished friend. We have devoted a lot of hours, gas, sweat and sometimes blood to our cemetery treks all over Randolph, Chariton, Macon and Monroe counties.
