When Tobe was 8 years of age, his father died at Union POW Camp Harrison in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was one of 11 confederate prisoners who died there from natural causes. Camp Harrison was organized to house the overflow of confederate POW troops from Camp Morton in Indianapolis. It was in operation from February to June, 1862.
Tobe married Ann Eliza Taylor "Annie" Little in 1879 in Marshall County, Tennessee. They had four children during their marriage. He died on January 24, 1907, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 57, and was buried in Columbia, Tennessee.
The 1860 census for Maury County, Tennessee, shows Constantine as 8 years of age. The 1870 census for the same county shows his age as 17. His death certificate is undoubtedly incorrect showing him as born in 1849.
