Wilfred Harkness Thornton, 87, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church followed by burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Suzanne Tubbs will officiate.

Mr. Thornton was born in Jackson, Georgia on August 13, 1916 the son of the late Samuel Harkness Thornton and Kate Glawson Thornton. He was married to the late June Williams Thornton and was a U. S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Thornton was a 1937 graduate of Duke University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of Kiwanis Club with fifty-five years of service including being past Secretary and Director of Macon Kiwanis and founding member of the Kiwanis Club of Rockmart, GA.

Mr. Thornton was Vice-President and Treasurer of Roy G. Williams, Inc. and a member of Downtown Merchant's Association. He was Past Senior and Junior Warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Macon and on the founding board of St. Paul's Apartments. Mr. Thornton also served on the Finance Committee of Appleton Church Home and was a member of the Georgia Forestry Association.
