Dies on Coast

HOLLYWOOD - Rod O'Connor, 50, former radio and television announcer for Red Skelton, and former Utahn, died Friday of cancer in a Hollywood hospital.

Mr. O'Connor lived in Ogden, Utah before joining the staff of KUTA in Salt Lake City in 1938. He later joined KSL Radio.

He was also with WCCO Minneapolis, WGN in Chicago and the "Don McNeill" and "First Nighter" network programs.

In 1945 he returned to California and began his career with the Red Skelton show as master of ceremonies. He also appeared in the movie "The Fuller Brush Man" with Red Skelton.

Famous Co-Workers
He had worked with Art Linkletter, Loretta Young, Dennis Day, Rudy Valee and Danny Thomas.

Mr. O'Connor returned to Salt Lake City on 1955 to join KUTV where he had his own show on weekday afternoons and was host for "Two on the Aisle" feature.

In recent years he had been associated with a sports and beach wear firm in Los Angeles where he had been residing since 1957.

Born Jan. 18, 1914, in Houston, Tex., he was a son of George and Grace Cover O'Connor. His father is a former Ogden City commissioner.

He married Virginia Drake in Ogden and was later divorced. In 1942 he married Sylvia Cannon in South Dakota.

Catholic Church Member
Mr. O'Connor was a member of the Catholic Church, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, where he served on the national board for several years.

He is survived by his widow, Salt Lake City, two sons and a daughter, Dennis, Grand Junction, Colo.; Roderic George, Jr. and Pamela O'Connor, both of Salt Lake City, father, Ogden; a brother and two sisters, Joseph Richard (Dick), Ogden; Mrs. Kathleen Greenelsh, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Mrs. Nora Dies, Pacific Grove, Calif.

Rosary and funeral services will be Sunday and Monday at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Los Angeles. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Los Angeles.
