WILLIAM WENNER

WM. WENNER ENDS LIFE ON FARM HOME.
Despondent Over Ill Health, Town of Mishicot Farmer Takes Life Early Today.
Despondent over ill health which gradually wore down his strength, William
Wenner, 78, pioneer resident of the town of Mishicot, committed suicide at
an early hour this morning by hanging himself from an apple tree near the
house as his son Louis, with whom he resided, was busied with the morning
chores in the barns nearby. The body of his father was discovered by Louis
Wenner as he was returning to the house and cut down immediately, but life
was already extinct.
William Wenner, a widower for the past 12 years, has always been a resident
of the town of Mishicot, having been born and brought up on the homestead
where he lived all his life and which is located a mile out of the village
of Mishicot toward Two Rivers at Steiner’s Corners, on Highway 163. He was
born Nov. 21, 1852.
Three Sons Survive
The deceased had been in failing health for the past several years and lately
he had been growing worse. He arose with his son early this morning but
remained at the home when Louis Wenner went to the barns to do the morning
chores. It is presumed that after the son was away, the father secured a rope
and fastening it in the apple tree near the home, jumped clear and strangled
before his son, returning from the barn, found him.
Besides the son Louis on the farm, two other sons, Frank of this city and
Peter of Owen, Wis., survive. No inquest will be held as it is plainly a case
of suicide.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from the
Catholic church in Mishicot.
