STEVEN E. WESTLUND

Steven E. Westlund, 36, of Rocky Court, Route 1, Denmark, died late Tuesday
afternoon, May 22, at Holy Family Hosptial. He had been in a coma for the past
three and one half years at Memorial Hospital, Holy Family, and at St. Mary
Home.
Private gravside (sic) rites will be held Friday at Mishicot Public Cemetery.
Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot, will be making the arrangements. A memorial
service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at St. John Lutheran
Church, Town of Gibson. Pastor Maurice Hoppe will officiate.
Mr. Westlund was born Nov. 16, 1947, at Mattoon, Wis., son of Sigurd and Doris
Welder Westlund. He was graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in
1969 with degrees in Physical Education and Health. He married LaCrosse graduate,
Linda Radke June 27, 1970, at Stevens Point. Mr. Westlund taught Physical
Education in grades sixth through twelfth in the Mishicot Public School System
for eleven and one half years from 1969 to 1981. In addition to teaching, he
was the Assistant Baseball coach for three years; the freshman and junior varsity
Basketball Coach for four years; and freshman, junior varsity, and Assitant
Varsity Football coach for twelve years. Mr. Westlund was a member of the
National and State Education Association, he had been a past president of the
local Mishicot Education Association; a member of the National Health, Physical
Education, and Recreation Association; a member of the Delta Psi Kappa fraternity
and alumni association officer.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a Physical Education Teacher at Lincoln High
School in Manitowoc; his parents, Sigurd and Doris of Wittenberg, Wis; and an
older brother and sister-in-law, Darryl and Kathy, and a nephew, Eric Steven of
Mosinee, Wis.
It is requested that memorials may be made to the Westlund Athletic Scholarship
Award, established at Mishicot High School.
Relatives and friends may attend the Memorial Service at St. John Lutheran Church,
in Gibson, 11 a.m. Saturday.
