Gordon Peter Schmitz, age 93, was born on the Schmitz Homestead in St. Anna, WI to the late Henry & Ida (Schmitz) Schmitz on February 4, 1923. He was baptized, attended grade school and was confirmed at St. Ann's Catholic School and church. Gordon was a 1941 graduate of Kiel High School where he excelled in football and basketball. After high school he was a milk hauler and worked on various farms in the area. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country from January 1946-April 1947 in San Francisco, CA. In 1948 he began employment at Lake to Lake Dairy, Kiel primarily in the intake, where he worked for the next 40 years until retirement. It was there he met his wife, Adeline. They were married June 3, 1952 at the St. Ann Catholic Church rectory. While at Lake to Lake he worked part-time for Robert Kramer Home Milk deliveries and later Gerald Bartel. Gordon also did lawn care for several Kiel businesses, which he found rewarding. He enjoyed deer hunting in his earlier years, growing big potato crops, card playing, especially skat and sheepshead, traveling and munching snacks, especially peanuts. He was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church and after marriage was a dedicated member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. When his health permitted he attended Mass every morning, walking to church. He also groomed the family dog, Schatzie, every day for 16 years. Gordon's greatest joys were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Adeline of Kiel, four children; David (Helen Himes) Schmitz, Phoenix, AZ, Gary (Susan) Schmitz, Malone, Dawnine (Patrick) Lenzner, Sheboygan, Bradley (Sarah) Schmitz, Kiel and grandchildren; Heidi (Fin) Wiegman, Heather Schmitz, Olivia Schmitz (Matthew Simons), Grayson Schmitz, Michael Schmitz and Jacob & Lilliana Schmitz. He is further survived by his great grandchildren; Ella & Lane Wiegman, Gray and Ford Simons, one sister, Lucina Casper, one brother, Daniel Schmitz, four sisters-in-law, Cyrilla Schmitz, Carol (Eugene) Maeuser, Rachel (Eugene) Rabe, Marion Balz, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Pirmin Schmitz, sister-in-law, Kay Schmitz and brothers-in-law, Jerome Balz & Lyle Casper.
