James T. Abbot, 73, of Brattleboro, Vermont passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Charlene Manor in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 16, 1943; the son of the late Hartwell and Wilma (Corliss) Abbot.

Jim has been a Brattleboro resident since 1997. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Jim was employed as an electrician with IBEW Local 300 until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 5 and would walk over daily to have lunch with his friends. Jim was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed antiquing, attending auctions, dancing, leisurely scenic drives and traveling. Jim was very social; he loved telling jokes and making people laugh, but most importantly he valued his time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loyal partner, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his partner, Janet Walkiewicz of Brattleboro, Vermont; two daughters, Kimberly Jean Abbot of Vermont and Elizabeth Abbot Shaw and her husband Geordie of Georgia; a brother, Brownie Abbot (Jean) of Florida; three sisters, Susan Gerbig (Lee) of Indiana, Elaine Parsons (Charles) of Delaware, and Betsy Hannah of Vermont; five grandchildren, Morgan and Brooke Angell and Geraint, Hartwell and Reece Shaw. In addition, two step children, Lauren and Michael Walkiewicz; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Jim Hannah and his sister-in-law Becky Abbot.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11:00am at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, Vermont. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the American Legion on Linden Street in Brattleboro, following the service.

Burial will be private at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont
