She was a pioneer, widow, sister, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. Elizabeth was the fifth of 11 children, 8 girls and 3 boys born to Susannah and John Jacob Baugher Jr.

She married at age 18 to Mr. J.B. Storey on August 17, 1848 in Shelby, Illinois. (He also came from a large family, having 8 siblings.) Before their first daughter was born in 1855, Elizabeth and James removed from Illinois and settled in Liberty Town, Putnam County, Mo. There, they had their children, 5 children lived into adulthood. Most of the children were still quite young when their father died, at age 43.

Betty was a widow at age 40 with 5 children ages newborn - 15. A few years later, she married David Fredrick, a neighbor who had become a widower. He was from Germany, a farmer, and a father of 5, ages 13- 33. She and David were married about 16 years before David died suddenly of heart failure on the steps of the Wells schoolhouse.

"Aunt Betty", as she was called by the townsfolk, was one of the 'Old Settlers Group' of Putnam County and was well beloved by all who knew her. She had suffered with a very sore hand for several weeks. Although the Dr. had pronounced her hand gangrene, it was said to be getting better. She was 71 years old at the time of her death.
