Sherman C. Altwies, 82, of Elgin died 4 February 2003. He was born 24 September 1920 in Belvidere, Illinois the son of Ellis R. and Mary Crosland Altwies.
Most of his youth he lived in the Marengo, Illlinois area. He enlisted in the Navy May 1939-September 1945. He was a Gunner's Mate 2/C and served in the Navy Armed Guard (Pacific) for the entire World War II. He has lived in Elgin, Illinois since September 1945.
He was a retired Lieutenant from the Elgin Police Department. After the Police Department he worked at McGraw Wildlife, a kennel at Woodstock, Allied Mills Nutritional Research Kennel at Libertyville and the last 12 years of employment as driver for Schock's Greenhouse, Elgin.
