DEATH OF JAMES R. THOMPSON
Mr. James R. Thompson, familiarly known as Grandpa Thompson, died very suddenly at his home about 4 miles east of this city, Monday, May 29th,1899, at 11 o'clock a.m. Mr. Thompson was born in Chenango County, New York, Dec. 26, 1818. He was united in marriage with Melissa M. Gerry, Dec. 26, 1841. They moved to Milan, Ohio in 1844, and from there to Toledo in 1856. He came to Wahoo in 1880 and has made his home with his daughter since that time. The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Dr. Campbell of the Presbyterian church officiating. Mr. Thompson served faithfully in the late civil war, enlisting in the 111th Ohio as sergeant in Co. K and for gallant services was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Co. H same regiment. A number of old soldiers from Wahoo and Ithaca attended the funeral services and with a large concourse of friends and neighbors followed the remains to the Sunrise cemetery where they were tenderly laid away, and the usual soldiers farewell salute was given. May he rest in peace.
