JOHN AND AUDREY YANDA

Parents of Five Children Die of Asphyxiation.
MISHICOT – The parents of five children were found dead of carbon
monoxide poisoning in an automobile parked in the garage of their
home about two miles west of this village Sunday morning. They were
identified by authorities as John E. Yanda, 38, and his wife Audrey,
36, of Rt. 1. Mishicot. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, ruled
that death was due to asphyxiation and indicated there would be no
inquest. The couple was found by relatives who were summoned by the
children after they could not find their parents. The bodies were
discovered shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the front seat of the car.
Mr. and Mrs. Yanda had been to a wedding dance at Francis Creek
Saturday night.
Garage Closed
Dr. Teitgen said that the door to the garage was closed although
there was a small opening at the ground level. The car’s ignition
system was turned on but the motor had stopped running after the
gas supply gave out. A dog was found dead next to the car in the
garage.
Mr. Yanda was born Oct. 20, 1926, in the Town of Gibsons, on of the
late Ernest and Mrs. Lillian Zipperer Yanda. He attended Zander
graded school and was graduated from Mishicot High School of 1944.
He later served in the Army in World War II. On Oct. 20, 1948, he
married the former Audrey Haen, of Mishicot at Holy Cross Catholic
Church. He had been employed the past seven years at Hamilton Mfg.
Co., Two Rivers. His affiliations included the Larrabee Sportsman’s
Club and Holy Cross Holy Name Society.
Besides his mother of Manitowoc, he leaves a daughter (private);
(private); two brothers, (private); and the maternal grandmother,
Mrs. Frances Zipperer, Maniotowoc.
Joint Services
Mrs. Yanda, nee Audrey Mae, Haen, was born Jan. 27, 1931, at Sturgeon
Bay, daughter of Harry and Dorothy Mleziva Haen. When she was a child,
the family brought her to the Kewaunee area, and later to Mishicot
where she graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1948.
She was a member of Holy Cross Altar Society and had been employed at
Schwartz Mfg. Co., Two Rivers.
