Elwood George Hosier Jr., son of Elwood and Jane Himmelwright of 36 N. 18th St., died in Mercy Hospital here 63 minutes after his car was slammed against a stone wall.
The other victim was Clarence E Hodson, 21, of Davenport, a passenger in the other car. He was dead on arrival at the hospital. The driver and two girls were injured in the crash.
Sgt. Harvey Smith of Davenport police said the accident happened at a busy intersection. Smith said he was chasing a stolen car at the time.
Smith said the stolen car driven by David E. Slyter, 17, of Davenport, ran through a stop sign and crashed into the left side of Hosier's car. The police sergeant estimated the stolen car was traveling in excess of 109 miles an hour at the time. Hosier's car was spun around and slammed against a stone wall. Both cars burst into flames.
Hosier was a freshman student at the Palmer School of Chiropratic at Davenport. He was alone in the car owned by his roomate Lee R. Hinton of Phoenix, Ariz.
Harry Runge, Scott County coroner, said both youths died of brain damage. An inquest will be held later in the week.
Hosier was born in Stroudsburg and moved to Easton with his family in 1944. The Hosiers moved to Wilson Borough five years ago.
He graduated from Wilson Borough High School in 1958, where he was a member of the football, track and wrestling teams. He attended Moravian Preparatory School, Bethlehem, for a year and enrolled at Palmer last Oct. 1.
Hosier was a member of the Second Methodist Church, Easton.
Surviving in addition to his parentss are, a brother, Gregory, and a sister, Lois, both at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hosier of Stroudsburg, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Himmelwright of Promised Land, Pike County.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Katinis Funeral Chapel at 2101 Northampton St., Wilson Borough.
