This beautiful flower was plucked from this earth in an "honor killing" at the hands of her own relatives. May she always be remembered lovingly.

A movie about her life entitled, "Banaz-A Love Story" was released in 2012.

Her father Mahmod Babakir Mahmod and her uncle Ari Mahmod were given life sentences as well as Omar Hussain and Mohamad Saleh Ali. Mohamad Hadmad and two others have been accused of her death.

The man she fell in love with after leaving her abusive marriage never recovered from her murder and took his own life ten years later.

THERE IS NO HONOR IN HONOR KILLINGS!Art by Zhana D'Arte.

My sincere thanks to Renee Urbanski for sponsoring Banaz!!! It means a lot that you remembered her with a sponsorship and I appreciate your thoughtfulness! Bless you Renee! Kathleen

Banaz was a young Muslim woman from an extremely strict family in Iraq. Her husband, chosen by family, abused Banaz and when she fell in love with someone else, her family considered this an outrage and betrayal. To regain the family's "honor" , the decision was made to kill Banaz, as the family believed that she had disrespected them by leaving her husband and falling in love with someone else. Banaz's father and uncle specifically made the decision, and her cousins carried out the murder itself.

Banaz was only twenty years old. Lovely and kind, she had her whole world in front of her. May those members of her family such as her sister who protected her and truly loved her find some solace in their memories and to know she is free from hurt.

The details of this case are online, but they are disturbing.
