Wishart, Virginia M.; age 88; of Alma, MI; passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 12, 2015 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Daughter of Marcella and Merrill Stuckey, Virginia graduated from Alma High School in 1943. She attended the University of Michigan and Michigan Tech University where she received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. Virginia worked as a mechanical engineer at Dow Corning until her marriage to James Wishart in 1958. The couple lived in Flint. After several years as a homemaker and raising two children, Virginia earned additional degrees at the Detroit College of Business in Business & Accounting. She retired from the Genesee County Road Commission in 1989, where she served as a draftsman. Upon retiring, Virginia and Jim moved to Alma, where they attended the Alma & Lincoln Road United Methodist churches on alternating Sundays and volunteered with the Gratiot County Commission on Aging, delivering Meals-on-Wheels for nearly 18 years. In her retirement Virginia most enjoyed spending time at her cottage out at Bass Lake in Vestaburg, visiting with her Michigan Tech classmates in yearly summer reunions, and planning and attending her Alma High School reunions. She was an avid seamstress and quilter, attending Bishop Sewing clubs as well as a quilting group that met faithfully every Wednesday morning for many years. Her strong will & determination, which had helped her succeed in engineering at a time when few women were active in that field, allowed Virginia to recover from many health issues and live independently. Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim, and her two brothers Robert M. (Bernice) Stuckey and William M. Stuckey. She is survived by her children, Michael J. Wishart & Kimberly D. Wishart, brother Richard A. and sister-in-law Peggy Stuckey, sister-in-law Barbara Stuckey, brother-in-law Jack Wishart, and many loving nieces and nephews. In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging, Alma United Methodist Church, Lincoln Road United Methodist Church, or the Mechanical Engineering Program at Michigan Tech University. The family is being served by the Dewey Funeral Home of Alma.
