US Air Force Captain Rodney D Collins was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Air Force, CPT Collins served our country until February 27th, 1971 in Thailand. He was 29 years old and was married. It was reported that Rodney died from unknown causes. His body was recovered. Rodney was born on March 10th, 1941 in Hubert, North Carolina. CPT Collins is on panel 04W, line 010 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.
Collins entered the University from Swansboro High School in 1959 and majored in geography at UNC. He was in the Air Force ROTC program at Carolina and, upon his graduation in 1963, was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
A friend who went to college with him. Heaven gained a wonderful angel. Rod was such a big part of my life in college at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was majoring in Political Science and studied so hard and made good grades. He never missed a chance to borrow my MG sports car and was quite the figure in it. A Fellow Veteran & Family Friend. I saw Your Daughter and Your Grandchildren. Although I have never met you, I have for friends your daughter, Lisa and Grandchildren, Savannah and Owen. I learned soon after meeting your wife Becky, that you had been killed in Vietnam. I now think of you when I see them, it is a shame that you are not hear to see them growing, playing and learning.
