R. Katherine “Kat” Dillon, age 27, of Mount Vernon, beloved mother and daughter passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 as a result of injuries she sustained in an automobile accident.

Katherine was born on July 22, 1985 in Mount Vernon. She was an accomplished horsewoman having won numerous awards and competitions for her contesting abilities while having competed in other equestrian disciplines.

In June of 2005 Kat graduated from The Tomorrow Center in Edison, Ohio and then moved to Killeen, Texas. Less than a year later she returned to Ohio and began her life in Mount Vernon. Kat became a mother on February 24, 2010 to a beautiful son, Gavin Lain Highman, followed by the birth of her second wonderful son, Blake Raymond Highman on February 22, 2012.

During her brief time here, Kat enriched the lives of her family and friends with that radiant smile and her devotion to her sons.

She is survived by her son, Gavin Lain Highman of Mount Vernon, her mother, Linda Dillon of Mount Gilead, sisters, Jennifer Dillon-Messinger of Pataskala and Nicole (Stephen) Pearce of Denver, Colorado, a brother, Michael (Lindsey) Cairns of Los Angeles, California, her biological father, Michael Anton of Mount Vernon, special aunts and uncle, Anna and Stuart Bogden of Las Vegas, Nevada and Pepena Neary of Dallas, Texas and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

Katherine was preceded in death by her infant son, Blake R. Highman, father, Ronald A. Dillon, grandparents, Ruby (William) Howard and Steve (Frances) Anton and two aunts, Judith Steenbergen and Cocona Dodrill.

Friends may call on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00PM at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00AM with Pastor Tim Parker officiating. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:30AM in Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any branch of First Knox National Bank for Katherine’s son, Gavin Lain Highman.



ILLON, Ruby Katherine "Kat", aged 27 years, a resident of Mount Vernon, died from injuries on the 23rd of September, 2012, that she recieved in an automobile accident on Ohio 3, north of Wells Road in Monroe Township, Knox County, Ohio. ~ MOUNT VERNON NEWS ~ _____day, ___ September, 2012 - Mount Vernon — Ruby Katherine “Kat” Dillon, 27, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident. Woman and her young son were killed in a two-vehicle accident at 4:20 p.m. Sunday. The crash occurred on Ohio 3, a tenth of a mile north of Wells Road in Monroe Township in Knox County. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Ruby Dillon, 27, of Mount Vernon, was driving south on Ohio 3, and Thomas Vernon, 64, of Mount Vernon, was driving northbound. Dillon drifted off the right side of the road, then slid sideways into the on-coming lane. Vernon hit Dillon's car on the passenger side. Dillon died at the scene. Her seven-month-old son, Blake Highman, was flown by medical helicopter to Ohio State University Children's Hospital where he later died. Dillon's other son, two-year-old Gavin Highman, was taken to Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Vernon was taken to Knox Community Hospital. Alcohol is not suspected, but troopers do not know why Dillon lost control of her car.
