Scott A. Schonefeld, 47, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, in a Houston, Texas hospital.

He was a native of Corpus Christi, Texas and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1972. He was a member of LACUE, ISTE and was a national technology presenter. Scott received the LACUE Technology Educator of the Year in 2009 and the Teacher of the Year for Calcasieu Parish Public Schools in 1992. He enjoyed collecting fossils, videography, and was a fan of Star Trek. He wrote an article entitled "Cartoon Boon Studio 4 Reviewed" which appeared in the March-April 2008 edition of Learning and Leading With Technology magazine. Scott will be remembered as a leader in the field of technology.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Colynn Tarver Schonefeld; his parents, Alvin and Joyce Schonefeld, all of Sulphur; one brother, Michael Schonefeld of El Dorado, Arkansas; two sisters, Karen Domingue of McAlister, Oklahoma and Kim Maddox of Sugar Land, Texas; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Bethany Domingue, Christine Schonefeld, John Schonefeld, Laurel Maddox, Benjamin Domingue, and Daniel Schonefeld.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 5, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Sulphur. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with a scripture service at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary service.
Visitation will resume Friday from 10 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Schonefeld Frontier Fund through Merchants and Farmers Bank in Lake Charles. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
