Perico served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was active in the American Legion Cordova Post 13 and served as Post Commander. Most recently as the Post Chaplain.
Perico was a die-hard Phoenix Sons fan. His biggest passion was his painting and was dedicated and devoted to helping other Veterans. He retired from the Kaibab National Forest Service.
Perico is survived by his former spouse, Irene Quiroz; Sons: Freddie (Gina), Javier, Jaime and Orlando; Grandchildren: Josh, Lester, Orlando Jr., Alyssa, Freddie Jr, Michelle, Frankie Avila and their mother Cynthia; Nieces: Madlyn, Cathy, Monica, and other numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Gloria, Parents: Jose and Juanita Herrera Avila; Sisters: Ruth and Socorro; Brothers: Zeke and Manuel.
