Son of Ephraim A. & Mahala Elizabeth (Sherrill) Chesser. Married Mary Etta Robinette on 13 APR 1890 and fathered three daughters and a son. Employed by the Stonega Coke & Coal Company as a coal miner and mechanic. Killed by Hiram Falin. He was buried on 16 JUL 1921 in what is presently the oldest section of East Stone Gap Cemetery, however the delicate gravestone that once marked his grave has been destroyed, probably due to years of lawn-mowing which has destroyed many of the old and fragile gravestones in that section of the cemetery. The exact plot where he was buried remains unknown as a result.

BIG STONE GAP POST - 20 JUL 1921 - Front Page: "Lee Chesser, a married man about 58 years of age, who is well known in this section, having made his home in and around Big Stone Gap for fifteen or twenty years, was instantly killed last Thursday afternoon near his home at the Southern Depot in an encounter with a neighbor, Hiram Falin. A long gash severing the jugular vein was inflicted with a knife in Chesser's throat and he bled to death in a few minutes. After the killing, Falin calmly walked to his home and waited for the officers who arrived in a few minutes. He was arrested by Mike Blessing and placed in town jail. It is said that Chesser and Falin, who lived close together had been on unfriendly terms for nearly a year and both claimed that the other had threatened their lives. This difficulty, it is said, arose over some chickens belonging to Falin that had scratched up Chesser's garden and when they met that afternoon immediately became engaged in a quarrel. One witness who testified at a hearing Friday morning before Mayor Horsely , stated that Chesser threw a rock at Falin, but it missed its mark and Falin sprang at Chesser with a knife and cut his throat. Another witness stated that Chesser had his hands raised up when Falin cut him. A 45 Colt revolver was found on Chesser's body, but had never been removed from its holster. Both are married men and have large families. Falin claims that he was forced to attack Chesser in self defense and feels confident that when the final evidence is produced he will be held blameless. In default of bond, Falin was taken to Wise Friday morning after the hearing and lodged in jail."
