E. C. PLATT DIES; CABLE OFFICIAL
Was Connected To Mackay Companies 40 Years.
Edward C. Platt, vice president and treasurer of the Postal Telegraph-Commercial Cable System and a director of all other companies of the Mackay interests, died suddenly of heart disease at 9:30 a.m. today in his apartment in the Hotel St. George. He was born in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 4, 1851.
Besides his connection with the Mackay system, Mr. Platt was a director of the American Exchange National Bank. He was well known locally as a patron of music and a clubman. Among his clubs were the Hamilton, the Hardware and the Marine and Field. He was a past president of the latter.
Mr. Platt leaves a widow and two sons, Hunter, treasurer off the Federal Sugar Refining Company, and Horace. A third son, Cuthbert, was killed in action in France while serving as a captain with the Canadian forces.
Mr. Platt's connection with the postal system began in 1883. Prior to that time he was at the Nevada Bank as agent for the late John W. Mackay.
