On October 15, 1904, in New York City, Bert was wedded to his cousin, Jeanne May McConnelogue, the daughter of John M. McConnelogue and Martha Kennedy. "Jennie" was born on April 5, 1878 in Hardin county, Iowa. They had six children, Lambert Lee, Mary Lee, Donald, Robert St. John, Joan and Margaret Claire. Bert worked as a lawyer and served on several bank and corporate boards. He and Jennie cared for his mother, Retta, at home after she was diagnosed with dementia and declared incompetent in about 1917. They lived at 35 East 51st Street in Manhattan at the time Bert died on August 28, 1926. He was laid to rest here at Forest Lawn beside his mother and step-father.
