Pierre August Kalanquin was born in Frahier, Haute Saone, France, on March 5, 1843. His parents were Modeste Kalanquin and Anne Claire Ducotey. He married Maria Elisabeth Émonin on August 16, 1877, in Besancon, Doubs, France. They came to the US in 1880 with their daughters Augusta Julia and Maria Louisa on a ship called the St. Laurent. Also with them was his sister Emilie Kalanquin. Pierre August was a stone quarrier in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and a coal miner in Vigo County, Indiana. He died on March 10, 1899, in Vigo County, Indiana, in the beginning of his 57th year.
