Carl Erick Bergstedt, 81, of Shipshewana, IN, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Bergstedt was born November 5, 1934 in Plymouth, IN to Anton and Ruth (Thurson) Bergstedt.

Living in LaGrange County since 1970, he was an Indiana State Trooper for 21 years, retiring in 1976. After retiring from the state police, he had his own landscaping business for over 30 years.

Carl was a member of Lima United Methodist Church in rural Shipshewana, IN where he served on the Administrative Board, and was active with the children's services and Kids Korner. He loved flying his own plane. He served on the board for The ARC of LaGrange County for a few years.

Mr. Bergstedt was a United States Navy veteran.

He married Nancy K. Anderson on July 19, 1996 in Shipshewana, IN; she survives.

Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pam Bergstedt of Shipshewana, IN; a daughter, Cindy Ghaster of Walland, TN; a daughter-in-law, Linda Bergstedt of Goshen, IN; five granddaughters, Tabatha Swihart, Tiffany Farrington, Melissa Mishler, Jessica Hochstetler, and Judith Bergstedt; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Marge Kronk of Walkerton, IN; and a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Nancy Bergstedt of Greenfield, OH.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sons, Timothy Bergstedt in May of 1984 and Chester Bergstedt in March of 2007.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at Lima United Methodist Church, 6900 N 450 W, Shipshewana, IN with Rev. Kevin Brower officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in rural Howe, IN.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 2-7 pm at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, IN and on Monday from 10-11 am at the church prior to services.

Memorials may be made to either Lima United Methodist Church or Goshen Home Care and Hospice Foundation.
