Hibbard, Donald Ayers

Donald Ayers Hibbard, 93, passed away on November 30, 2006. Donald was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs. He was born September 24, 1913 to Cassius A. and Sadie (Vaux) Hibbard. He attended Steele Elementary School, North Junior High School, Colorado Springs High School and graduated from Colorado College in 1935. Donald met his future bride, Phyllis Frantz at Colorado College. They were married for 67 years. Donald served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Donald was a partner in Hibbard and Company Department Store from 1935 until 1950, when his dream called him to the ranching life, raising Black Angus Cattle and alfalfa on his ranch east of Fountain, Colorado. He was greatly pleased when the City of Fountain honored Donald for the donation of part of his ranch by naming a city park after him. Donald was a past member of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs. He chaired the board of the First United Methodist Church, during the building expansion in the 1950's. He is survived by his nephew, Ralph (Jeri) Hibbard; his niece, JoAnne (Terry) Moyer; and their children; Carrie, Richard, Robert, Tyler, Katrina and Kirk (Carrie). He will be missed by Mike and Dolores Romero and Mary and John Duran. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903; the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 or to Penrose Hospital, 2222 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80907. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. A graveside service will take place Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
