Hampton-Former Hampton County Sheriff Alton Maxwell Lightsey, 69, died Sunday in Hampton General Hospital.
Born in Hampton County, Mr Lightsey was a son of the late Perry wesley and Emma Priester Lightsey. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Brunson. He was a state probation officer for eight years, police dispatcher for Hampton County for 7 years and sheriff for 18 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs Leah Addison Lightsey; a daughter, Mrs Nancy L Revels of Nuremburg, Germany; two brothers, Oliver Perry Lightsey of Brunson and Harry M Lightsey Sr of Columbia; four sisters, Mrs Wilton E Hall Sr of Anderson, Mrs E W Tucker Sr of Greenwood, Mrs Alice Lightsey Murray of Columbia and Mrs Ray Edenfield of Allendale and four grandchildren.
Services will be 2 pm today in Peeples-Holland Funeral Home with burial in Brunson Cemetery.
