Joseph Otto Ankenbrandt, M.D., U.S.N; 71, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Saturday, Dec 11, 1999. Born in Cleveland, Ohio; to parents Otto F and Helen Connor Ankenbrandt. Dr. Ankenbrandt graduated from Saint Louis University Medical School. Serving the Decatur area as an orthopedic surgeon[board certified, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery], he dedicated much of his energy to the healing of others. He was active in the medical community, serving as president of the medical staff of Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital. In addition to his medical service, he was a devoted father of seven, a school board member and a community leader. He had a keen wit, a kind heart and a generous nature. He will be dearly missed by his six surviving children, their spouses and his 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Ankenbrandt.
