Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Black Mitchell, 61, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 8:45 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2016 in her residence.

Becky was born March 27, 1955 in Southern Pines, NC and raised in Sulphur, LA. She was a 1973 graduate of Sulphur High School and graduated from McNeese State University with her associate's degree. She remained a resident of the Carlyss area until 2000 when the family moved to Lake Charles. Becky was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Lake Charles Junior League, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Ladies Golf Association, Lake Charles Country Club, and the Mardi Gras Krew at the Country Club and was active with the parents group at St. Mary's Residential and Training Institute. Becky was always doing things for others. Quilting, cake decorations, baking, sewing, and embroidery were just a few of her talents that she unselfishly shared with friends and family. When her daughter was in school at S. J. Welsh and Barbe High School, she would bake every Tuesday and bring baked treats to the entire faculty. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, the most thoughtful person and will be missed dearly.

Becky is survived by her husband of thirty-three years, Jim Mitchell of Lake Charles; daughters, Jamie Ann Mitchell of Alexandria and Katie Beck Mitchell of Washington, DC; step-son, Justin Derek Mitchell of Lake Charles; sister, Ann Black Vallette and husband Steve of Carlyss; sister-inlaw, Janet Black of Lake Charles; and brother and sister-inlaw, Drs. $omas and Linda Mitchell; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Thomas "J.T." Mitchell; brother, Steve Black; parents, Thomas Winfred and Margaret Bourque Black; and in-laws, Thomas W. and Elsie Mitchell.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until the start of the service. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. Dr. Ronnie Burke will officiate.
