Of Little River, SC, died Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Myrtle Beach Manor. Born on April 18, 1920 in Evington, VA, he was the son of the late William W. Abbott, Sr. formerly of Evington, VA and the late Mary Elizabeth Vereen Abbott, formerly of Little River. He attended Wampee High School and graduated from New London High School in New London, VA. He attended Lynchburg College in Virginia and took extension courses at Duke University and University of Virginia. He took boating and navigational courses from the U.S. Power Squadron, where he became a Navigator. He was employed as a Construction Estimator and General Superintendent in Northern VA and Horry County, SC. Mr. Abbott has been a member of the United States Power Squadron since 1956 and was a charter member of the Northern VA Power Squadron. He was past Commander of the Long Bay Power Squadron in South Carolina, a member of Little River Lions Club, a member of the Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens in Horry County, as well as past President of the Little River Improvement Association. During his life he enjoyed boating, teaching courses offered by the United States Power Squadrons and helping others. Mr. Abbott is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esther P. Abbott of Little River; one son, Davis V. "Dave" Abbott of North Myrtle Beach, SC; one daughter, Patricia A. Brown Lloyd of Little River; former daughter-in-law, Kathleen Y. Abbott Walters and husband, Darel of Longs; three grandchildren, David V. Abbott and wife, Tammy of Summer Shade, KY, James W. Brown and wife, Rebecca of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Catherine A. Jones and husband, Jeff of Conway, SC; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
