US Congressman. From 1880 to 1884, he was the prosecuting attorney of Atchison County, Kansas. In 1885, he returned to Missouri, was the editor of St. Joseph Gazette and served in the State senate 1890 to 1894. In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and to the three succeeding Congresses serving until 1905. After his term, he founded the Observer newspaper, of which he served as editor until his death. He is presumed to be buried at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas, but the cemetery officials have been unable to find a record of his being interred there.
