Opera Singer. Edoardo Ferrari-Fontana was considered to be among the finest Italian dramatic tenors of his day. He created the role of Avito in the world premiere of Italo Montemezzi's "L'amore dei tre tre" at Milan's Teatro alla Scala in 1913 which was also the role of his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1914 under Arturo Toscanini as well as at the Paris Opera, the Monte-Carlo Opera, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Following his Italian debut Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Pollione in Norma, he was quickly in demand all over Italy as its leading Wagnerian tenor. While sailing to Buenos Aires in 1912 for an engagement there, he met the famous mezzo-soprano Margaret Matzenauer who was to sing with the same company. They married at the Italian Club in Buenos Aires in 1912 and subsequently had one child together, Adrienne. In 1919 Margaret divorced him. His voice can still be heard on a number of recordings of Italian opera and Wagner.
