Norfolk - Clifton St. Clair "Kirk" Kirkman, 74, of the 5700 block of Cornick Road, a retired Navy Senior Chief Engineman, died April 16, 1993, in a local hospital.

Mr. Kirkman was born in Vanceboro, N.C. He had retired from the Navy after 23 years. He had also retired as quality-control officer for supervisor of the Shipbuilding in Newport News, Department of the Navy. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Vanceboro, N.C. He was also a member of Norview Masonic Lodge 113, Fleet Reserve 5 and the U.S Submarine Veterans of World War II Tidewater Chapel.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ethelia G. Kirkman; three daughters, Ethelia K. Sutherland of Greenville, S.C., June E. Keating of Norfolk, and Carol Jean Kirkman of Miramar, Fla; three sisters, Ellen Hill of Winterville, N.C, Sudie Mae Galloway of Walstonberg, N.C and Alma L. Gaskins of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren; two great-grand-daughters; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. James E. Womble and Dr. W.B. Sutherland Jr. Burial with Military honors will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7-8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Lansdale Baptist Church, 1478 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, or the Norfolk S.P.C.A.
