Born May 25, 1940 in Las Animas, Colorado, Gene moved with his mother to Denver when he was 6 months old. After World War II, he went with his mother, Marie, and little brother, Gary, to Lamar, Colorado where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1958. He attended Barnes Business School in Denver and worked as a stock clerk for a pharmaceutical company there until the summer of 1982 when he was diagnosed as having bladder cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer could not be controlled and Gene died in Denver General Hospital on Dec 28, 1982. He was 42 years old.
