Capt. Evans of Hollandale, Mississippi was the youngest of two boys, who graduated third in his class from Simmons High school and went on to Mississippi State University where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. He was an avid sports fan and athlete who was pleasant and giving, someone who liked to help other people. He also had an inquisitive personality that probably landed him in his military career as an explosives ordnance disposal technician dismantling explosive devices. He was always taking things loose and putting them back together and liked to see how things work. He was serving his second stint in Iraq after also having served from November 2003 through May 2004. He enlisted in the Air Force in 2001 and was promoted to captain in November 2005. He graduated from Mississippi State. He was 31.
