Hiram H. Melvin may have been born in 1826. Hiram was living in the Mancos Valley in 1877-1878. He was living in Big Bend, CO 31 May 1881. He was part of a posse raised by David Willis to pursue Marian's band of Utes, who killed Richard "Dick" U. May and Byron Smith. Melvin was among the posse killed in the Pinhook Massacre in Castle Valley, Grand County, UT.
