Death Yesterday of Mr. W. A. O. Morson

Charlottetown has lost a worthy citizen in the death of Mr. W. A. O. Morson which occurred yesterday afternoon after an illness of several weeks. Few men were better known in the city and province and none more generally loved and respected.

The late Walter Augustus Ormsby Morson, K. C., M. L. A., was born in Malpeque, December 24, 1851, son of Richard and Elizabeth Morson. He studied law under the late Chief Justice Sullivan and was admitted to the bar in 1877, becoming junior partner in the firm of Sullivan, McLean and Morson. In 1879 Mr. McLean retired and Mr. Morson entered into partnership with the late Judge McLeod, Summerside, under the firm name McLeod, Morson and McQuarrie, which continued until 1893 when Mr. McLeod was appointed Judge of Prince County. The firm continued until June, 1903 when the junior member withdrew and Mr. Morson took as partner Mr. G. Gavan Duffy under the name of Morson and Duffy.

Mr. Morson was a staunch Conservative and in 1902 at a by-election was returned to the Legislature Assembly representing Cardigan district. At the general election in 1904 he was re-elected for the full term of four years when he resigned to occupy the position of Deputy Prothonotary of the Supreme Court.

In October, 1891, Mr. Morson married Miss May Elizabeth Des Brisay, daughter of the late Theophilus and Dorcas Des Brisay. To this union was born three children, Arthur, Clifford and Walter all of whom passed away at an early age.

The late Mr. Morson was a member of the Masonic Order and a consistent and devout member of St. Peters Cathedral and was a member of the Branch of Trustees until the time of his death. He was also for many years a member of th Board of Trustees of the P. E. Island Hospital. In early years he took an active part in military matters, rising to the rank of Major.

He leaves to mourn a sorrowing widow, one sister, Mrs. Frank Beairsto of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, two brothers, Dugald C. of Cardigan and Stewart of Dundas, besides many relatives and friends. The Guardian tenders deepest sympathy to the bereaved.

The funeral will take place Monday, leaving the late residence, 5 Grafton Street at 9:30 a.m. to St. Peters Cathedral, thence to St. Peters Cemetery.
