Kenneth Fredrick Backstrom was a wonderful man. He was born July 25,1916 in DuBois, Pa. The only child of Harry Carl & Myrtle Ann Peace Backstrom. He married his one true love Florence Martha Mathews, Daughter of Luke C & Florence D Weaver Backstrom on July 30,1939. Ken enlisted in the Army September 23,1943 and served in the Foreign service from March 18,1944 till December 8,1945. His photo was in in Time magazine at one time. Ken and his wife Florence "Martha" would write often to one another while he was away. Ken would send her back items he would find in abandoned homes in the rafters of barns and such. Even a painting he traded a man on a ship for. When Ken returned home, He and Martha started collecting antiques. They had a antique shop in the Golden Nugget in Lambertville, New Jersey for many years. Ken and Martha tried but were unable to have a child of their own, So they adopted a beautiful baby girl that was left on a door step. Many people came forward that wanted to adopt this little baby. Doctors and Lawyers, but Ken and Martha were chosen to love her. And that they did.They were told to pick a birthday for her, since it was not known. They felt it only right that she be given a July birthday since both their birthdays and wedding anniversary all shared that month. Leah was their pride and joy. Kenneth was also a Guard at the Steel mill for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha in 1991 and only child Leah Louise in 1992. He is survived by two grandsons Ronald & Rusty Williams and three Great Grandchildren. And his adopted God daughter/caregiver Kimber Lowers. Ken was cremated and will be laid to rest with his parents back home.
