August 4, 2014

Garth Mendenhall Clark was born on the April 11, 1946 in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho, to Denzle James Clark and Mary Phyllis Mendenhall Clark. He was the fourth child in a family of five children.

His ambition for work began early and he was always careful with the money he earned. As soon as he was old enough, he worked in the potato harvests and later moved pipe in farmer's fields of potatoes and grain.

He purchased his own car as soon as he was old enough to drive. His parents shopped in Saving Center in Idaho Falls and
he met the people who worked in the store.

He was offered a job as an apprentice in Saving Center's meat market. It would be a learned skill that he chose as his occupation through life.

He took business classes at ISU and was a gifted meat cutter and manager wherever he worked. As a youth he lived and attended school in Idaho Falls until his middle teens when he married early and moved to Pocatello, Idaho to work at Fraziers Market in their meat department for $2.35 an hour.

He completed his High School studies in May of 1964 and received his diploma from Pocatello High School. He enrolled at Idaho State University for summer quarter 1964. He attended full time in 1964 and 1965.

He then worked full time for Safeway in Pocatello and was in college again in February 1966. He took 12 Credits and worked full time.
He loved to take on new challenges.
In September 1966 Garth was made manager of Safeway's meat market at age 20. He was the youngest meat market manager
in the district in 27 years.

In April 1967 he advanced to manager of the meat market in the new Safeway store in Logan, Utah. Though he had to build up the business, he soon became first and second in sales several months in the district.

In June of 1970, Garth bought a partnership in Milo's Food Market in Preston at 24 years of age for $75,000. He later sold his interest in the store and accepted a position with
Miller Meats of Hyrum, Utah. He was soon made plant foreman over 72 men. Garth advanced to production manager July 21, 1971.

He married Cindi Tebbs December 31, 1973 at Wells, Nevada. They were later divorced. Two girls were born to this marriage Chaunette and Chelesa.

In 1982 Garth went to work for Railey's Grocery in Carson City, Nevada. Again he was in charge of the meat department.

He met and married Jodi (JoAnn) Hamlin while living here. The family moved to Nipomo, California where Garth worked for Lucky's Food Stores in Arroya Grande.

Two girls were born to this marriage: Brittney and Lindsay.

JoAnn preceded him in death in 2005. His parents and a younger sister, Daralee, also preceded him in death.

Lucky's Stores sold to Albertsons in 1999 and Garth retired in 2006 from Albertson Corporation as meat department manager over several stores.

After his girls were raised, Garth purchased an motor home and began to live his retirement dream of camping and fishing in California in winter and Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming in summers.

Garth passed away August 4, 2014, of a heart attack while in San Luis Obispo for a doctor's appointment.

He was cremated and a private Memorial Service was held 31 August in Logan Canyon, a favorite place to camp with family
