EDWARD EBENHOE
(1948 - 2016)

Edward "Eddie" Ebenhoe, age 68, formerly of Whitelaw and currently a resident of Manitowoc ended his earthly journey on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, following a life of service to others.

He was born in Manitowoc on July 16, 1948 to the late Edward and Charlotte (Backhaus) Ebenhoe. Eddie graduated from Reedsville High School in 1966 and joined the United States Army in 1968. He courageously served in the Vietnam War for three years, beginning with the 101st Airborne as an Infantryman from May 1968 through August 1969. After grave injuries, he spent until April 1971 recuperating at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver. He earned three Purple Hearts, the First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart and several other medals for his bravery during the war.

He married Lynn Rhode on May 25, 1974, and together they built a full life in Whitelaw. Eddie's primary career was as a Rural Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service from 1976-2003, where he brought friendliness and care to those he encountered along the route. He carried a strong dedication to the community, serving on the Whitelaw Village Board for eight years and on the St. Michael School Board for 11 years. He served on the St. Michael Parish Council for over 20 years, first as Council Member and later as President; he also led the St. Michael Holy Name organization as President for over 20 years. Eddie was a proud veteran and gave tirelessly to these organizations. He was a member, Treasurer and Vice Commander of Disabled American Veterans Andrew Miller Chapter #24 from 1986 through his death. As an active member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter #731, he served as Board Member, Color Guard and Honor Guard from 2009 to 2015. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Unit #164.

Eddie lived and breathed for his wife Lynn, who he loved and cherished for 42 years. His greatest joys came from spending time with his kids and grandkids - going fishing, riding bikes, golfing, going on road trips, camping and playing card games. He loved teaching them about the outdoors and through his last days he continued to learn from them as well. His compassion stretched far beyond his family to those he met along his earthly journey: neighbors, fellow veterans, people along his mail route and the medical staff who cared for him.

He is survived by his loving wife: Lynn Ebenhoe, Whitelaw; three children: Andy (Julie) Ebenhoe, Sheboygan; Cherie (Dan) Leonard, New York, NY; Marcus (Elsbeth) Ebenhoe, Rochester, NY; four grandchildren: Ethan, Rebecca, Camden and Fitzpatrick. He is further survived by four brothers: Ralph (Bonnie) Ebenhoe, Menomonee Falls; Marvin (Millie) Ebenhoe, Manitowoc; Howard Ebenhoe, Manitowoc; Joe (Kitina) Ebenhoe, Orange, CA; five sisters: Lorraine Ebenhoe, Manitowoc; Jane Ebenhoe, Manitowoc; Marilyn (Jerry) Neuser, Mishicot; Margaret Philip (fiancé Don), Forest Junction; Linda Jean Ebenhoe, Green Bay; mother-in-law: Joyce Rhode, Whitelaw, other in-laws: Barb (Paul) Bonde, Nekoosa; Randy (Jane) Rhode, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Charlotte Ebenhoe; one brother: Ronald Ebenhoe and infant brother: Roger Ebenhoe; father-in-law: John Rhode; and brother-in-law: Dennis Philip.
