Violet Elizabeth (Lowe) Akin Girdler

Violet Lowe Girdler, 93, Cincinnati, formerly of Somerset, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati.

She was born in Somerset, January 29, 1908, daughter of the late William Jackson and Lillie Maude Ware Lowe. She was a homemaker, and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include four sons, William Amos and Edward Donald Akin, both of Somerset, Thomas Wylie Girdler, Decatur, Illinois, and Lloyd Spencer Girdler, Somerset; five daughters, Frances Marie Dugger, Cincinnati, Lois Ann Ragle, Glenda Faye Wilson, and Gayla Fern Reyer, all of Somerset, and Wanda Lee Leatherberry, Pensacola, Florida; a brother, David Lowe, Somerset; a sister, Vinna Pleasants, South Boston, Virginia; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, G.W. Akin and Stanford Perkins Girdler, who died in 1987; her parents; two brothers; five sisters; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Howard Burton officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund.

Violet was the daughter of the late Lillie Maude Ware and William Jackson Lowe. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington (GW) Akin whom she married on December 16,1925. They had three children.

She was a widow by the age of twenty four.
She married Sanford Perkins "Perk" Girdler, a widower. He preceded her in death. She was survived by four sons, five daughters, a brother, and a sister.
