Anna Faye Abel, 85, of Yakima passed from this life into eternity on September 4, 2016. What we have lost, Heaven has gained. Mom bravely faced death knowing she would be in God’s presence forevermore.

She was born July 10, 1931 in Boise City, OK to Delmer and Mildred (Norton) Hegwood. She attended school in Tieton and graduated from Highland High School.

After high school at age 18, Faye married Edward Abel. They were married for 67 years.

She was a stay at home mom raising six children. After the kids were grown and left the roost she worked in the fruit industry for several years.

Our family was so blessed to have such a loving and supportive mother teaching us God’s love by living His Word. She looked for the positive in everything and everybody and had only good to say.

Faye converted to Catholicism and was an active member at Holy Family Church. She was an active member with Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters and ministered to nursing homes with her husband by serving weekly communion for over 30 years.

Faye is preceded in death by her parents Delmer and Mildred Hegwood and sister Cynthia Stevens.

Faye is survived by her husband Edward Abel and 6 children, Ronald Abel (Sue) of Tucson, AZ, Richard Abel (Susan), Karen Cyr (Fred), Kent Abel (Ginger) of Yakima, Mary Kroutch (Bryant) of Olathe, KS, Marla Barnes (Ralph) of Tieton and also 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be at Holy Family Catholic Church; Vigil Service on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 6:00 PM, Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is Friday September 16, 10:00 AM followed by a reception with Interment at 1:30 PM at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services -- crs.org.

We would like to thank Memorial Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Mom these last few weeks.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brookside Funeral Home.
