Helen B. Rich, 89, of Spooner, died on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Spooner Health System.
Helen was born on September 24, 1919, in Cornell to Albert and Lucille Adrian. She married Frank "Penny" Rich Sr. on November 15, 1943, in Spooner. They raised their family in Spooner and Helen was very active in the community. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters Society, and was the former director of the Spooner Senior Citizen Center.
She also enjoyed spending time in Arizona for over 18 years. While in Arizona, she was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Safford and also taught art classes. She was a talented artist, with a passion for painting.
In addition to art, she enjoyed cooking, writing, playing cards, bingo, and especially spending time with her family. Helen enjoyed participating in the activities offered at the Spooner Nursing Home.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Penny" Rich Sr.; sisters, Louisa, Margaret, Clothilda "Tillie", Freida, and Amelia; brothers, Frederick "Fritz", Robert, Charles "Chick", Albert "Pat", and Harold "Bud", and half-brother William Sudner.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. Fr. Ed Anderson officiated. Sister Dominica Effertz and the St. Francis de Sales Choir provided the music.
Internment was at Calvary Cemetery in Spooner. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Scalzo-Taylor Family Funeral Home in Spooner.
