Rachel Jane Rankin was the daughter of Simeon Hiett Rankin and Julia Martin. She was the Wife of Hugh McGuire Cory and the Mother of Reuben McGuire Cory. She operated a boarding house for years in Gladwin, Michigan and made badges of mourning for Federal Army Soldiers after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. She was a loyal Union woman.

Mrs. Rachel Corey, an old resident of Gladwin, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Corey, in Saginaw. The body was brought to Gladwin Wednesday by Rogers & Neely. Rachel Jane Rankin Corey, widow of Hugh M. Corey, was born at Berkley Spring, West Virginia, March 27, 1850, and departed this life Jan. 25, 1926, at the home of her daughter, Mary J. Corey, at 614 North Franklin St., Saginaw, aged 75 years, 10 months and 29 days. Mr. and Mrs. Corey were married at Martinsburg, West Virginia, Dec. 15, 1865, and after a few years residence there moved to Ohio. Later they came to Michigan, living for a short time in Chesaning and also in Clare county. They came to Gladwin in 1880 where Mrs. Corey lived until a few years ago, when she moved with her daughter to Saginaw. Mr. Corey preceded Mrs Corey in death 36 years ago. She has been in poor health the last 26 years, but has been a patient sufferer. She was a member of the Gladwin M. E. church for 39 years, but two years ago she transferred her membership to Jefferson avenue M. E. church of Saginaw.
Those left to mourn her loss are three sons and five daughters: Mrs. Reuben Corey of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Adolph Hunt and Mrs Elmer Dennings of Gladwin, Reuben Corey, Timothy Corey, Mary Corey, Mrs. Alfred Francis of Saginaw and Freeman Corey of Petosky. She also leaves one sister of Flint, Michigan, besides grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. The body was brought to Gladwin for burial on the family lot in Highland cemetery.
