OUR DAD

He always insisted and emphasized for his 4 girls to strive to achieve
more than he had ever accomplished.

To be educated and self supporting.

To be independent and never expect anything from anyone.

He was trustworthy and a man of his word.

He was a hard worker and a good provider.

He drove a semi-truck for a company called TIME-DC for 20 1/2 years.
For many years his run would take him to Lordsburg, NM. After an 8
hour lay-over, he would return to Phoenix the next day. Then his run was changed and he drove to Desert Center, CA where he would drive and return the same day. While still truck driving, he started his own firewood business. After leaving the trucking business he continued working full time in the firewood for 16 years.

He helped my mother coach a softball team for 10 years. After working all day he would meet us at the park and pitch to us for batting practice and then hit us balls for fielding practice. Most of the time he was there to help her with our games.

Being a LINE driver, he also taught us all how to drive. Mom was not going to take any part in that. We all took lessons in his pickup truck in which he had installed this 40 pound clutch. Let me tell you, even all of us being athletic in our younger years, it still would make your leg quiver sitting at a stop light.

He loved hunting and fishing. Family vacations were always spent at a lake camping and fishing. Since we did so much camping growing up, today camping means staying at the Holiday Inn. One year we went to CA, of couse for a family funeral, so we got to go to Disneyland.

He fished and camped with his Grandchildren. He took his Grandsons to Disneyland one summer vacation. His Grandsons helped him in the woodyard during the summers. He took his Great Grandson fishing where he caught his first fish and Great Grandpa helped him reel it in.

He never was a complainer and never wanted to feel needy. Even when he had his triple heart bypass, and his legs all stripped of their veins, he never talked about it. And these last couple of years, not feeling very well because of his illness, he slowed down, but never complained.

He was a man who never showed his feelings, emotions, weaknesses or vulnerabilities. We all saw him as a pillar of strength. A neighbor friend referred to him as "his John Wayne". If you have ever been in our parent's house, you know our dad loved John Wayne, with pictures of the man on their living room walls.

He loved to hear and tell jokes and pull jokes on friends and family. He loved life to the fullest.

Also, if you have ever been to our parent's house, you know he loved the color YELLOW! That bright yellow trim on their house, was dad's choice. He loved yellow roses of which he called his Yellow Rose of Texas.

He was a great bond not only in our immediate family, but with both of our mother's brothers (our Uncle Linn and Uncle Georgie) and their families.

His best friend is their neighbor, Mr. Potter, who has been a blessing to all of us for helping mom take care of him. Mr. Potter just went through this himself, with his own beloved wife. We wish to thank him for everything he has done.

Holidays were always times of family gatherings. This year for Christmas, we will miss his presence, but not his spirit. New Year's Day, Mom and Dad would have celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary.

Now he can be at peace and be re-united with his youngest daughter, Vicky.

May we wish all his dreams come true in his life ever after.

Harry is also being reunited with his Mother, Father and Brother
