Former Nanticoke Postmaster and Legislator Dies at Daughter's Home

Thomas J. Morgan, 80, of 61 Kirmar Avenue, Alden, widely known in Luzerne County and former Nanticoke postmaster, legislator and prominently known as a rock contractor over a period of many years, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Percy Williams, 333 East Main Street, Nanticoke.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Wales, son of the late William J. and Ann Morgan. When he was 15 years old he came to America with his parents and settled in Plymouth. He attended public schools and later worked in the mines. He had an executive post with the Glen Alden Coal Company and later became a rock contractor.
He was a Republican and was one of that party's most active workers. He served three terms as postmaster of Nanticoke, having been appointed by President Harding. He served under Presidents Coolidge, Hoover and Roosevelt.
Prior to being appointed postmaster he served two terms as representative of the Fourth Legislative District in the House of Representatives at Harrisburg. He was Republican chairman in his district for several years and served on ,the executive committee.
After relinquishing the postmastership be retired, spending his winters in Florida. In recent years he resided at Alden.
Mr. Morgan was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church of Alden and was affiliated with Nanticoke Lodge 541, F and AM, Keystone Consistory and Irem Temple.
Surviving are his wife, the former Clara Young of Alden; two children, Mrs. Ann Williams, wife of Dr. Percy Williams, Nanticoke, and Howard K. Morgan, Detroit, Mich.; also three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. William McAlarney, Mrs. Oscar Loderick, both of Plymouth; Mrs. William T. Williams, Hollywood, Fla.; James W. Morgan, Plymouth, and David Morgan, Middleport, N. Y. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
The funeral will take place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Williams residence. Rev: William Hosking, vicar of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Alden, and Rev. David J. Jones, pastor of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke, will officiate. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
