Robert Paul Wylie (Bob) of Tehachapi, CA, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the age of 77.

Bob was born March 21, 1939, in Boston, Massacusetts, the second child and only son of Robert C. and Edith E. (Wallace) Wylie. He grew up in Boston and graduated from Hyde Park High School and Boston State College where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education. In 1961, Bob enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps, and soon entered Officer's Candidate School. He was in the Marines until 1976 and achieved the rank of Major. During his military career, Bob served in Vietnam as a Marine pilot flying the A-4 Skyhawk with three tours of duty, flying 96 combat missions.

After his military career, Bob became a commercial airline pilot, flying 727s and DC-10s for Continental Airlines, and later, a Detective with the San Diego Police Department, at one time serving on the mayor's detail.

Bob married Eldora Day, April 20, 1964 in Winterhaven, California, and they raised three children: Deborah, Robert, and Christopher. As a young military faamily, they lived various places around the country before puting down roots in Torrance, California.

On Valentine's Day 1990, Bob married Jill (Fitzsimmons) Laine in San Diego; it snowed that day. They lived in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego, where he helped raise her two daughters, Jessica and Cameo.

After retiring from SDPD, Bob and Jill moved to Tehachapi, where he enjoyed golf, riding his beloved horses, Twoey and Hoot, and spending time with his family. In Tehachapi, Bob also served as President of the Bear Valley Springs Association.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jill; daughter, Deborah Gonzales of Lakewood; sons, Robert Wylie of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; and Christopher Wylie of Long Beach; stepdaughters, Jessica Laine and Cameo Martin; two sisters, Elizabeth Sheldon of Orange, Mass., and Gretchen Kenny of Norwood, Mass.; grandson, Aiden; granddaughter, Lauren; great-granddaughter, Nalina; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the interment service on September 19, 2016.

Those attending should begin gathering at 11:00 a.m. in the 300 block of West F Street at Wood Family Funeral Service in Tehachapi, where parking will be restricted. The escort of family and friends will begin at 11:15 a.m. with the Tehachapi Police Department escorting the funeral procession from the funeral home in Tehachapi to the service at Bakersfield National Cemetery. The interment service at Bakersfield National Cemetery will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Oak Tree Country Club in Bear Valley Springs.
