Deceased Name: Gaither Lee Baumgardner 76, of Pineville died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in his home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at 12:00 Noon in Stough Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend J. Grady Faulk and Reverend Lee Davis officiating. Interment will take place thereafter at Berryhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family received friends on Tuesday evening at the Baumgardner home. Born in Bristol, TN, on September 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Claudis McKinley and Hettie Mae Crotz Baumgardner. He was a decorated US Army veteran serving during World War II. A Charlotte resident for 50 years, Mr. Baumgardner retired in 1986 from United Parcel Service, where he had been employed as a Diesel Mechanic. Mr. Baumgardner is predeceased by his wife, Peggy, a son, Mickey Baumgardner, and a daughter, Beverly Collins. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, G. Lee and Denise Baumgarten, Pineville, and Kirk Collins, Pelion, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye Wright, Pineville, Gaye and Dave List, Charlotte, Pam and Mike Carraher, Lexington, SC, and Brenda and Gary Stowe, Charlotte; sisters, Katherine Grant, Lincolnton, and Colleen Williams, York, SC; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Gaither Lee was affectionately known as Pa-Paw to many. Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements.
