Mr. Alton Friday, 77, of Millport, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus MS. Born June 9, 1939, to the late Alton Brooks Friday and Susie Anderson Friday. He is preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother, mother and father-in-law Dewel and Francis Leonard, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Scott. Mr. Friday was a graduate of Gordo High School and the University of Alabama Law Enforcement Academy. He is a Retiree of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department having worked there for 25 Years. He is survived by Carolyn Friday, his wife of 56 years, his daughter Ellen Friday and son-in-law Brian Harrod, his sister Carol Henderson (A.L. Henderson), special nephew, Eric Scott (Misty and Ella Scott), brother-in-law Dan Leonard (Hilda Leonard), brother-in-law Orvil Scott, special friend Terry Perkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The Funeral Service will be Saturday December 3rd, 2016, at 12 o’clock in the afternoon at Dowdle Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Dowdle Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 12 prior to the service on Saturday the 3rd. Burial will be in The Leonard Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Perkins, Marty Gottwald, Curtis Graham, Anthony Reeves, Hal Allred, Wayne Kelly, Ricky Cook, and Doug Smith. Honorary Pallbearers included all law enforcement officers of Lamar County, Alabama. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to St. Jude or Lamar County Rescue Squad.
