OBITUARY:
Mrs. Sarah Jane Gates, 75, resident of 311 North Broadway, Barnesville, died at her home Saturday evening, October 6, 1955, at 6:30 o'clock.
She was born in Belmont County, near Powhatan Point on October 7, 1881, a daughter of Daniel Webster and Rachel Ellen Helms Carle. She was married to Charles Clarence Pittman in 1906 and he died in 1926. In 1927 she married Morgan Gates who preceded her in death in 1955. She was a member of the Barnesville East Main Street Church of Christ.
Surviving are one daughter, Miss Beatrice Pittman, of the home: four step-children, Dr. Newell Gates, of Charleston, Illinois: Mrs. Esther Jones, of Baltimore, Maryland; Mrs. Gladys Higgins, of Martins Ferry; Lloyd Gates, of Baltimore; nine step-grand-children; two brothers, George Carle, of Brilliant, and Herbert Carle, of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. May Moffett, of Savannah, Ohio, and Mrs. Bessie Pennell, of Jerusalem. A brother, Walter Carle, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Burd, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Campbell Funeral Home in Barnesville on Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock, with Evangelist Emerson Scott officiating. Interment was in the Jerusalem Cemetery.
