Charles A. Clark, veteran Francesville business man, passed away suddenly at his home here Tuesday morning at about 6:45, as a result of a heart attack. Although his health had not been the best for several years, being a sufferer from diabetes and a chronic heart ailment, yet he was active and operated his grocery store every day. Monday night, after closing he complained of not feeling well. Tuesday morning, his wife, went to his room and found his lifeless body on the floor. Mr. Clark was born in Iowa, May 1, 1873, the son of Asel and Maria Clark. When a small boy his parents moved to Clarksfield, Ohio, where he was reared to young manhood. He came to Francesville from Ohio in 1893 to visit his brother, J. A. Clark, who was the manager of the Francesville Creamery Company plant. When his brother, Jerry, moved to Wolcott, he was put in charge of the creamery, having served as an apprentice in a cheese factory in Huron County, Ohio. In June 1896, he was married to Miss Sarah Garrigues. He resigned this position and moved his family to Lafayette to serve as a fireman on the Monon road in 1899. He then left railroading and from 1900 to 1903 had charge of the restaurant at the State Soldiers Home, Lafayette. He returned to Francesville in 1903 and purchased a grocery stock from Leroy Shrontz, which was located in a two-story brick building that stood on the present site of the Tribune office. In 1916 he moved his stock to the room in the Kopka building. He had been in business here for almost thirty-three years. Surviving are his widow; two sons-Casper of Lakewood, Ohio, and Keith of Akron, Ohio; a sister Jenny of Ruggles, Ohio, two grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Christian Church, the Knights of Pythias and the Masonic Order. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, February 14th, at 2:00 o'clock at the Christian chruch with Rev. John S. Van Orman, officiating. Burial will be in the Francesville cemetery.
